HOLLINGSHEAD, Rhea Sadie (nee Sabourin)

Posted

Peacefully, with family by her side, on April 25, 2005, at age 87. Passed away at the Sudbury Regional Hospital-Laurentian Site. Predeceased by her husband Charles, brothers, Leonard and Lionel Sabourin and sister Anita Dionne. Rhea is survived by loving sister Agnes Kirwan (Connie) of Falconbridge and sister-in-law Bella Sabourin of Mississauga. Loving mother of Keith Sabourin (Ethel) of Cloverdale, British Columbia, Herb Hollingshead (Bernice) of Ottawa, Linda Riggi (Tony) of Mississauga, Wayne Hollingshead (Kimberly) of North Bay, and Faye Stephens (William) of Kirkland Lake. Cherished grandmother of Scott, Lyanne, Martin, Daniel, Chanda, Alana, Shona, Michael, Matthew and Ian. Great grandmother of Avery, Kelsey, Riley, Shamus and Spencer. Beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews. Rhea was born in Crane Hill and was a life long resident of the Sudbury area. She worked in the Rock House at the Garson Mine to support the war effort. Her patriotism in support of the Armed Forces led her to become a life long member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Lockerby Branch 564. Rhea was a wonderful cook who greatly enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. One pleasure she enjoyed immensely was going out for a treat of Fish and Chips. She also enjoyed the summer bounty of fresh picked blueberries. Her pastimes of knitting and craft work were beautiful and she kept family and friends well supplied with gifts she had created. Family was extremely important to Rhea. She was the "keeper of the records." All family and extended family weddings, births and deaths were recorded and kept, along with any information Rhea felt was important. She "doted" on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always keeping their pictures nearby where they could be proudly shown off, as she talked of their accomplishments. Our thanks to the Breezes Retirement Residence for the wonderful care Rhea received during her stay. She enjoyed many of the planned activities and spoke highly of the staff. Thanks also to the staff at Laurentian Hospital for their gentle care during her brief stay. Our deepest gratitude to the many friends and relatives who supported and helped with her care, throughout her cancer treatments and her final, quiet moment. Your kindness, compassion and love are greatly appreciated. Resting at the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent Street at Hazel Street, friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 564, Lockerby. Funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Church, 39 Walford Road, Thursday, April 28th, 2005 at 10 a.m. Cremation at the Parklawn Crematorium. Donations to Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be appreciated.
