While a new carpet is being rolled out at the library, some services are being impacted.

The main branch of the Timmins Public Library on Second Avenue is getting new carpet and flooring, with the renovations happening from May 9-31.

Unless major issues arise, the library is expected to stay open and maintain its regular hours.

Starting on May 13, there will be extended hours at the C.M. Shields Centennial Branch in South Porcupine. It will be open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Programming at the south end branch will not be affected.

Here are other services that will be affected:

  • Browsing collections may be limited.
  • Programs at the main library will stop.
  • Meeting and study rooms will be unavailable.
  • Items will be unavailable when they are being moved/temporarily stored.
  • Tables and seating areas will be limited when furniture and collections are moved around.
  • Limited number of computers will be available.
  • Faxing, printing and photocopying services may be disrupted on some days.
  • Areas may be closed off/inaccessible at times.
  • The book drop may be closed for a few days. When that happens, items can be returned at the circulation desk.
  • Interlibrary loan service may be delayed.
  • Parking spaces will be reduced.

The services that will be available through the renovation are:

  • Asking the librarian to retrieve items.
  • Place holds on the items you'd like transferred from the C.M. Shields branch.
  • Holds can be placed and picked up. Staff will advise if a delay is expected.

  • Electronic services are available 24/7.
