Murder charge laid in West Nipissing shooting

One man is dead and another is under arrest for murder after a shooting at a home in Sturgeon Falls last wednesday.

On March 13 shortly after 5 p.m.,  Nipissing West OPP responded to a report of a shooting on Bradley Street.

The victim is Joseph Genereux, 53, from West Nipissing.

As a result of the investigation, Marc Larabie, 48, from West Nipissing is charged with:

  • Second degree murder
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm

Larabie remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Superior Court of Justice in North Bay on April 12.

Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to public safety.

The public can continue to expect a large police presence in the area. Further information will be provided as it becomes available say police.

The investigation is being conducted by the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
