Police have completed an extensive search of the area where the suspect vehicle was stopped on Carmichael Drive, and believe that the suspects are no longer in the area.

Police are still actively involved in the investigation and are reminding the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times.  The OPP’s website, www.opp.ca contains a number of useful resources, tips and links.

Anyone who may know of the whereabouts of these wanted suspects or who may come into contact with the suspects should not approach them. Instead, contact the police as soon as possible by call 9-1-1.

Police are still looking for a pair of suspects, they say may be armed and dangerous, after a home invasion early this morning in Redbridge.

The four men burst in on an elderly couple's home on Songis Road around 4 a.m but fled after being confronted by the occupants.

Police say they are unaware of any violence at the scene.

A short time after this incident was reported, officers with North Bay Police, aware of the home invasion, stopped a car  that contained four occupants, on Carmichael Drive in the area of Hornell Heights, which was believed to have been associated with the crime.

When the car was stopped, two of the occupants fled on foot and remain on the run at this time, while the other two were arrested.

The suspects are described as:

  • tall
  • thin
  • wearing black coloured clothing.

Police say the suspects pose a threat to public safety and should be considered armed and dangerous. Police say the two are "possibly armed" but can't confirm it.

"For the public's safety, don't try and stop them yourself," warned Cst. Carolyn Ward of the OPP.

A door to door investigation is presently ongoing.

Col. Henrik Smith, 22 Wing Commander said he was informed around 4:30 a.m. from the on-duty crew advising that local police had an incident just off the base where suspects had fled and believed they were armed.

"Based on that we decided to secure the base. There's the NORAD operations centre which has a robust security system, so that was fairly routine. But of course we have 186 families that live on the base. All we knew at the time was they had fled into the woods and could be coming this way.

"My military police started to liase with the OPP and North Bay police and they put the tactical response team in the situation together and they worked together throughout the morning."

One suspect managed to get onto the base said Smith.

"One member was arrested at the scene of the stop. A second member was in fact stopped on the base right by our hospital which is adjacent to our residential housing units, which is why we said 'ok there is a possibility they are on the base'.

"That's a subdivision just like every subdivision in Canada. It has fences. It has sheds. It has decks --- all places to hide, so a combination of the OPP, North Bay Police, and the military police went through, and once they assured us they we were clear and that we did not have a problem, which was about 11:15 (a.m.) we lifted the shelter-in-place.(the lockdown).

Smith says they delayed their normal 6 a.m. shift change.

Anyone who may know of the whereabouts of these wanted suspects or who may come into contact with the suspects should not approach them.  Instead, contact the police as soon as possible by calling 9-1-1.

Security at JackGarland Airport confirms the facility has not been affected by the lock down and is open for travellers.
