An impromptu memorial to 7 year old drowning victim Korbin South continues to grow outside the Welcome Centre in Burk’s Falls, as does a call for fencing along the Magnetawan River where the young boy fell in 10 days ago.

The memorial contains, flowers, stuffed toys and a balloon saying “You’ll be missed”.

OPP say the youngster was located in about 11 feet of water, 217 metres below the dam, but it took over two days to locate the body.

The four foot, 50 pound youngster had been playing along the shoreline with other children shortly before 7:30 in the evening.

Korbin fell into the river and was swept away. He is the son of Nicole Bebee and Mike South of Burk’s Falls.

The site of the accident is a popular family area with a picnic table and a beautiful view of the river.

Now, members of the community are asking questions about safety in the area, and raising money to try and build a fence to prevent further tragedies.

A petition is being circulated asking the town to take action. Supporters want it to be named in Korbin’s honour.

Funeral services were held yesterday in Burk’s Falls.

Memorial donations to the family can be made through Opatovsky Funeral Home – Dempster Chapel.
