Increased OPP presence while death in South River investigated

A post-mortem is being conducted Thursday to determine the cause of death and the Almaguin Highlands OPP advises there is no risk to public safety

SOUTH RIVER, Ont. — The Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is investigating a death in the Village of South River.

On April 24, 2024, Almaguin Highlands OPP officers responded to a report of a deceased individual located in a residence on Ottawa Avenue in South River.

A post-mortem is being conducted on April 25 to determine the cause of death and the Almaguin Highlands OPP advises there is no risk to public safety.

The investigation is ongoing by the Almaguin Highlands OPP Crime Unit, with the assistance of OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Residents in the area will continue to see an increased police presence.

Police say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
