Vancouver, B.C. – North Bay, Ontario labour activist Henri Giroux was re-elected to the position of Northern Ontario Regional Vice-President at the national convention of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) in Vancouver on Thursday, November 3rd.

“I am honoured to receive renewed support from my sisters and brothers across Canada, assembled in Vancouver for our biennial CUPE national convention”, said Henri Giroux, also President of the North Bay and District Labour Council, President of CUPE Local 146, 4th Vice-President of the CUPE Ontario Executive Board, and past NDP provincial candidate.

“The North and CUPE face many challenges ahead, from the attacks by right-wing governments, to foreign trade negotiations like CETA (Canada-European Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement), which will weaken our economy and threaten jobs, not only in the North, but across Ontario,” said Giroux.

“As a member of the National Executive Board of CUPE, I will be at the forefront of our movement’s struggle to defend our members, and protect jobs and investment in the North.”
