Adele and Master Corporal Brett ‘Rick’ Rickard of North Bay, parents of Private Jason Rickard, who died in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, September 8th in the Township of Head, Clara & Maria near Dunlop Crescent are issuing the following statement today:

“We are both saddened at the sudden loss of our son Jason. Although he only lived for a short time his energy and outgoing nature was felt by all who knew him. He was proud to be an air reservist and prouder still to be part of the Engineering Branch at 22 Wing/CFB North Bay as a carpenter technician.”

Jason grew up and attended school in North Bay, graduating from Widdifield Secondary School. Pte Rickard joined the Canadian Forces in 2010 as a reservist with the 22 Wing Air Reserve Flight, working in the 22 Wing Construction Engineer Section as a carpenter technician. Jason followed his father’s footsteps by joining the Construction Engineer Branch and was thrilled to finally be attending his QL 3 course in Gagetown, New Brunswick, to become a qualified carpenter. Learning to serve early in life from an example set by his family, Jason was an Air Cadet with 547 Canuck Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. He loved to stay active; whether playing sports, volunteering at Relay for Life, replacing the roof tops on the 22 Wing cottages or fixing his car. Always helpful, always smiling, proud to serve, his enthusiasm for life brightened everyone’s day. Pte Rickard will be tremendously missed by family, friends and co-workers. CHIMO!

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jason’s memory can be made to the “Soldier On” charity and would be greatly appreciated by the family. Please contact the …Funeral Home
