The North Bay Police have concluded the investigation into the recovered headstones. It was learned that both persons were actual people but were buried in other towns. One of the headstones had a spelling mistake on it and the other had been replaced in excess of 30 yrs ago. The monument company subsequently disposed of the stones by burying them in a vacant piece of land nearby. A few years later a residence was built on the vacant land and while digging a drainage ditch, the stones were unearthed. The new residents questioned the nearby monument company and were told that the stones were wastage. The couple then kept the headstones as conversation pieces for several years. It was decided to dispose of the stones this past spring so they were taken and dropped into the pond believing they would sink into the muddy bottom.

A large headstone has been located in a pond near Pinewood Park Drive. The stone is in three pieces; half submerged in mud and appears to have been there for a long time. The origin should be determined when the pieces are retrieved today.
