Ottawa - In light of recent recalls of headcheese products contaminated with Salmonella Chester, the Public Health Agency of Canada is advising Canadians to take all necessary precautions to ensure that they avoid the recalled food products.

Currently, there are 17 confirmed cases of illness due to Salmonella Chester reported in B.C. and one confirmed case reported in Ontario. Most of those affected are older than 70 years of age. The source of the outbreak is Freybe Gourmet Foods Ltd headcheese manufactured at Brandt Meat Packers. Both companies have recalled headcheese products, although only the Freybe brand is linked to the illnesses.
