It lasts less then five minutes but the Discovery North Bay Museum's Easter event is a favourite for area families. Hundreds of area families turned out to Thomson Park Saturday to race down the field to fill their Easter baskets with a bounty of chocolate.

“We just wrapped up the 13th annual Hershey's Giant Easter Egg Hunt which is a fundraiser for the museum,” explains Museum Director Jennifer Buell.

“Each year Hershey's donates 10,000 mini chocolate bars and this has been a banner year we came close to selling out of wrist bands and we only sell 500.”

Buell says a big part of the day's success was Mother Nature's cooperation.

“I think the weather has a lot to do with it, we have done this event for a few years now (where) we've done it in mud, we've done it in snow and ice and this is by far the best turn out we've had.”

“And I think a lot of it has to do with the weather everyone wants to be outside.”

And the success of the event means a $3,000 kick start to the year.

“It goes directly into our programming so things like PD Day programs, summer camps, all of the programing we do through the summer this just gives us a little boost to get going.

“We always count on a good attendance otherwise we are finding other ways to come up with the money, so I'm just so pleased to see a great turnout this weekend.”
