The Young Community Leaders Project (YCL) is moving forward in North Bay aiming to bring the enthusiasm, intelligence and perspectives of young people to the forefront of building strong and sustainable communities.

Over the last year Regional Coordinator, Brian Finner and the YCL team have been working on completing a Community Consultation in North Bay by collecting and analyzing data regarding youth engagement in the community. YCL has completed their Community Consultation report and the first phase of this 44 month initiative, thanks to the generous support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

In preparation for Phase Two, The YCL team will be hosting a public meeting where they will be discussing the findings of the Community Consultation Report. This meeting will be taking place at Canadore College in The Recreation and Leisure Services Department on Tuesday September 29th, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the presentation, there will be an orientation session for youth and potential YCL volunteers to learn more about the YCL Project and how to get involved in the next phase. The second phase of the project involves the development of youth-driven projects based on the Community Consultation completed in Phase One. Orientation sessions will be taking place at Chippewa Secondary School on September 30th and October 1st from 6-8 p.m.

If you are interested in participating as a youth volunteer and you are between the ages of 15 and 30 or if you are a member of the community wanting to learn more about the Young Community Leaders Project contact Brian Finner at 705-471-1719.
