Human remains in a wooded area near Katrine

Police believe there is no threat to public safety

On May 3, 2024, shortly after 9:00 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) found human remains in a wooded area near Katrine, south of Burk's Falls.

The identity of the deceased has yet to be confirmed. Police believe there is no threat to public safety.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the OPP Almaguin Highlands Crime Unit, OPP Emergency Response Team , the OPP Forensic Identification Services and the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Police promise additional information will be released when it becomes available.
