At its regular monthly general meeting two days after the dedication of its first area home, Habitat for Humanity North Bay and Blue Sky Region introduced its second selected family. Roger King and Rosemary Elson and their five children, ages 10 and under, were selected for the organization’s second home during its initial call for applications.

Partner families assume responsibility for two interest free mortgages equalling the entire fair market value of a home built mainly with volunteer labour and donated materials. Payments on the 75% first mortgage are used by the organization to build more homes; the 25% second mortgage is forgiven if the family retains ownership of the home until the first mortgage is paid. The King / Elson family described this opportunity as “like turning on a light for our family – a light to show the future.”

In anticipation of building two North Bay homes in 2009, Habitat for Humanity North Bay and Blue Sky Region is accepting applications from October 1 to November 30 (by mail only at the address listed on the application form available at www.habitatnorthbay.com.
