Huntsville OPP charged a novice motorist with impaired driving after he was stopped for speeding on Highway 11.
It was just before midnight on May 2, while police were conducting speed enforcement. The vehicle was stopped for travelling at 164 kilometers per hour in a posted 100 zone.
Upon speaking with the driver, police suspected impaired driving and an Approved Screening Device demand was made. As a result, the accused was arrested and taken to the detachment for further testing.
Zackary Smith, 30, from Huntsville is charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Drive motor vehicle - excessive speed
- Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero
The driver had his license suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.
Smith is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on June 18.
