OPP investigae fatal fire Update

Kirkland Lake – A joint investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office, the Kirkland Lake Fire Department, the Coroner’s Office and the Kirkland Lake OPP continues into a fatal fire which has claimed the life of a Kirkland Lake man. The body of the victim has been tentatively identified as Ray Leonard age 71 of Kirkland Lake. Further DNA tests are pending to positively confirm identity.

A post mortem examination was performed on the victim July 21st at the North Bay General Hospital. Further toxicology and forensic testing is required to confirm the cause of death.

Foul play is not suspected in this incident. The investigation into the cause of the blaze which completely destroyed the building is continuing.

Kirkland Lake – A joint investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office, the Kirkland Lake Fire Department, the Coroner’s Office and the Kirkland Lake OPP has begun into a fatal fire which has claimed the life of a Kirkland Lake man. The fire completely destroyed an apartment building located on Hudson Bay Avenue in Kirkland Lake. The incident was reported to Emergency Services at approximately 12:00 a.m. on the 20th of July, 2008.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
