On Wednesday, June 18th, an incident occurred at Pinewood Public School at approximately 3:00 p.m. when a student was hit twice by what appeared to be a pellet from a BB or pellet gun. As a precaution, the student was taken to the hospital where medical care was given and the student was then released. At this time, there appears to be no need for additional medical care for the student.

Immediately following the incident, an onsite investigation was conducted with the assistance of the North Bay Police Department. This investigation is ongoing. We do not believe that this incident was caused by any of the Pinewood students.

School board policy prohibits any kind of weapon, including pellet guns and pellets, from being brought onto school property. The board suggests that families review with their child(ren) safety issues regarding owning and misusing any type of items that could be used as a weapon. The school held an indoor recess today and will do so again tomorrow while the police are continuing their investigation.

Should anyone in the community have any information about this incident, the school board would appreciate receiving it to assist in the investigation. Please contact the school or Near North Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). All information will be kept in confidence.

Safety continues to be a priority for all our schools.
