As the festive season approaches, the spirit of giving takes centre stage, especially in North Bay’s surrounding area, where the annual Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon has become a beloved tradition. This year, the telethon is set to make an even bigger impact with its new date on November 30th and a return to a live format.
The event aims to ensure that no child in North Bay’s surrounding area wake up on Christmas morning without a gift or a special meal, thanks to the generous donations from the community.
Verner Presse, Chair of the Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon, says, “The whole purpose of the telethon is to help those in financial need and ensure children and families have a Christmas with smiles on their faces.”
The telethon supports children from infants to teenagers, providing them with gifts and food, ensuring a joyous holiday season. This mission has never been more crucial, as families continue to feel the economic strain brought on by the current economic conditions.
Last year, the telethon fell short of its donation goals, a challenge faced by many charitable organizations recently. “We’re hoping that we can get things back up to where they should be this year,” says Presse.
With the telethon going live from 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm, viewers can tune in via livestream, YouTube or catch it on Cogeco channel 12, bringing the community together for a day of entertainment and heartfelt giving. Viewers can also watch live at Canadore's G Wing Theatre.
Donations can be made in a variety of convenient ways: through the telethon’s website, via credit card or e-transfer, or by calling the number in your region. Visit their website here to see the numbers available, including toll free options. Every contribution, no matter how small, can light up a child's holiday.
The Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon has been a part of North Bay’s surrounding area since 1946, embodying the vision that every child should experience the joy and wonder of Christmas.
“In times of economic hardship, it’s very important to support families struggling to provide a special Christmas for their children,” Verner emphasizes.
So, as you prepare for the season of giving, consider how your generosity can transform lives in your community.
Join the Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon on November 30th—your donation can be the reason a child believes in the magic of Christmas.
