PHOTO: Jennah Johnston won Ontario’s only gold in the 69-kilo class. Johnston, a Chippewa Secondary School student, posted a 117.5-kilo total, by way of 52.5 kilos in the snatch and 65 kilos in the clean and jerk.

MONTREAL — Five North Bay Apollo Gymnastic Club athletes competed in the Eastern Canadian championships here. The competition was attended by 282 athletes from Quebec, Nova Scotia and Ontario.

CALGARY — Two athletes from the North Bay Apollo Gymnastic Club took part in the national age-groups competition for power tumbling and have qualified for the Indo-Pacific championships in Kelowna, B.C. as members of the Canadian team.

SUDBURY — Nathan Daly’s goal at 9:52 of the first overtime session gave the North Bay Skyhawks a 7-6 victory over the Sudbury Northern Wolves Wednesday at the Countryside Arena.

Paul Wragg of Atikokan and Bev Phippen of the North Bay Valhalla team were the stars of the show at the 14th annual Special Olympics Northern region powerlifting invitational held at the YMCA. Forty-six competitors took part.
