Fifteen youth bowlers took part in the Youth Challenge Provincial 5 Pin Bowling Championships which were held at Superior Lanes in Thunder Bay, Ontario on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
This tournament consisted of youth ages 12 to 18 who endured long bus rides for an opportunity to advance to the National Championships in Ottawa, Ontario in March 2018.
For the 2nd consecutive year, Felicity Eckensviller from Tri-Town Lanes in Haileybury and Liam Smith from Partners Bowling in North Bay, in his final year of eligibility, each took the silver medal in the individual ladies and men's standings.
As a result, Felicity and Liam will be participating in the Youth Challenge National Championships being held on March 21-24, 2018 in Ottawa, Ontario.
They will also be representing Northern Ontario Team 1 at the Ontario Winter Games in Orillia, Ontario on March 1-4, 2018.
Bowlers consisting of Felicity Eckensviller from Haileybury, Ryane Lafleur from Sturgeon Falls, Leah Spurvey, Kyrsten Tremblay, Emma Starcevic and Coach Natasha Smith from North Bay tied for 3rd place in the Ladies division but lost out via a tie-breaker rule
Bowlers consisting of Liam Smith, Christopher MacLean, Noah Starcevic, Nicholas MacLean, Coach Flipper Smith from North Bay and Zachary Eckensviller from Haileybury finished in 4th place in the Men’s division.
Bowlers consisting of Xavier Lafleur from Sturgeon Falls, Thomas Williams, Jake McKenny, Alexa Mitchella, Coach Barry Tremblay from North Bay and Alexis Antler, from Haileybury finished in 5th place in the Mixed division.
