Wildcats defeat Trojans 21-7 (new)

Add the Widdifield Wildcats to the list of contenders in the Nipissing District Association Senior Football League.

Last season’s finalists, the Wildcats opened the 2004 schedule at home Friday with a 21-7 victory over the defending champion Trojans from West Ferris.

It’s only the first game of the season for both teams, but the Wildcats were impressive in handling the Green-and-White.

Jesse Bethune opened the scoring for the Wildcats in the first quarter with a touchdown and Andrew Mills converted.

Chris Sheremeta upped the lead with another major score in the second quarter, converted by Mills.

Wylie Phillips had the other Widdifield touchdown in the fourth quarter and again Mills added the convert.

Quarterback Dave Weber scored his team’s points with a touchdown and convert in the fourth quarter.
