The West Nipissing Lynx of the non-sanctioned Greater Metro Junior ‘A’ Hockey League has hired Jeff Mancini as their new head coach for the 2018-19 season.

The former minor pro hockey player who is also the golf professional at the North Bay Golf & Country Club spent time previously as an assistant coach with various AAA teams in the North Bay & District Trappers AAA Hockey Association.

Most notably Mancini was an assistant coach for the 2002’s Team NOHA at the OHL Cup and the OHL Gold Cup.

Mancini replaces Daniel Tremblay who spent the past two years as head coach of the Lynx.

President Pat Miron says Mancini is an ideal fit for the position.

“We believe his past experiences both as a player and as a coach will push our players to the next level,” said Miron.

“He not only helps players improve and grow as individuals on the ice, but also as young men off the ice and that’s an incredibly important component of our program for which we take great pride in.”

Mancini is excited about the opportunity to become a junior hockey head coach.

“I believe in order to be successful in life, and in hockey, you can’t be afraid to make mistakes,” said Mancini.

“You have to practice the right way in order to perform the right way. Our goal this season will be to follow a multi-step process, highlighted by; recruiting the right people, and developing their skills.”

Mancini and the Lynx will begin training camp in Sturgeon Falls in late August.
