The Warriors of Hope Breast Cancer Survivors Dragon Boat Team competed in Barrie on August 25. They raced in the BCS division and the Open Community races on a windy and rainy day on Lake Simcoe that eventually saw the last races cancelled because of thunder in the area.
The Warriors won the Anna Kwan Breast Cancer Survivor’s Challenge in a close race with Barrie’s Ribbons of Hope. The Warriors and Ribbons were joined by hundreds of supporters in the traditional Carnation Ceremony as cancer survivors and friends remembered those who have passed on. A special tribute to children with cancer was a part of the ceremony.
The next Dragon Boat Festival for the Warriors will be in Stratford, Ontario on September 15. Practices continue Tuesday and Thursday evenings on Trout Lake.
