Voyager Inn wins title

A couple of Northern Ontario teams played off for a southern Ontario championship at the third annual Waterloo Ravens midget A hockey tournament. North Bay Voyager Inn Voyagers defeated Sudbury 5-3 to capture their first tournament of the season.

North Bay Voyager Inn Voyagers defeated Sudbury 5-3 to capture their first tournament of the season.

Cat Trudel opened the scoring early in the first and the Voyagers squad never looked back. Tanya Simard, Melissa Ladouceur and Jenna Kirkey scored second period goals with Simard rounding off the scoring in the third. Sudbury could not get anything going with the tenacious play of the Voyagers.

In the round robin play, Voyager Inn was 2-1 with wins over Barrie 7-0, Walkerton 3-0 and a 3-1 loss to Sudbury.

In semi final action, North Bay met the number one Brantford team from the opposing pool in a tight, gutsy performance, scoring three unanswered goals in the third period to eke out a 4-3 win.

Sudbury met the number two team from the opposing pool, the host Waterloo Ravens and won 4-3 in overtime to set up the all-northern final.
