The Powassan Voodoos picked up goals from five different skaters in using the well-balanced attack to defeat the French River Rapids 5-3 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League East Division meeting at Noelville Arena.

Squaring off for a third straight outing, Powassan opened the scoring at 16:11 of the first with Jacob Peterson-Galema putting the visitors on the board.

However, French River came right back 45 seconds later to tie it on the first NOJHL goal for affiliate Brandon Hass.

Moving to the middle stanza, the Rapids came out quickly to go up by one as Cameron Conover picked up his fourth of the season 64 seconds in.

Then it was the Voodoos turn to draw level at 3:41 that saw Gabinien Kioki collect his 16th to even the proceedings.

Back and forth they went with Powassan going back on top a few minutes later on Henry Scott’s 14th.

From there, Cade Herd collected his 19th at 12:16 to extend a modest point streak to three only to see French River’s Philippe Daoust strike with 13 second left in the period to make it 4-3 after two.

The visitors picked up some insurance with under nine minutes remaining in regulation as Rico Rossi notched his 13th for his squad to round out the scoring.

David Campbell and Brett Shawana both had two assists in the triumph for the Voodoos.

Shots on net saw Powassan hold the edge by a 46-41 margin with Christian Cicigoi picking up the win and Carson Murison the loss.

The Voodoos are back on the ice Tuesday night when they take on the visiting Timmins Rock. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at the Powassan Sportsplex.
