Powassan Voodoos defenceman Dayton Murray picked up both of his team’s goals Saturday to help lead his side to tightly-contested 2-1 decision over the Timmins Rock Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Kicking off a four-game home stand, the Voodoos used the power play to open the scoring as Murray connected near the midway mark of the first period.

The league-leaders then extended their lead early in the middle stanza as Murray notched his second of the night and 12th overall, 45 seconds into the frame, to put Powassan up by two.

The big game for Murray comes two days after he and teammate Eric Nagy made their OHL debut's as call-ups for the North Bay Battalion in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves.  Both Murray and Nagy collected assists in that game.

It stayed that way until seven and a half minutes into the third when the Rock finally solved Voodoos’ starter Nate McDonald thanks to Stewart Parnell who picked up his sixth tally in 2016-17 for Timmins.

McDonald however would not allow another the rest of the way finishing with 27 saves to record his NOJHL-best 22nd win of the season.

Rock netminder Al Rogers also turned in solid performance in defeat allowing only two against on 31 attempts for Timmins.

The win moves the Voodoos to 70 points on the season with a 34-5-1-1 record as they move 9 points up on the second place Cochrane Crunch with three games in hand.

The Voodoos are back on the ice Monday night when they host the visiting French River Rapids.  Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Powassan Sportsplex.
