Voodoos secure 39th win in double OT over Rock

Voodoos battle back from a 3-1 deficit to pull out the win in extra time

Shane Beaulieu’s 20th goal of the season, which came two minutes into the second overtime, finished off a Powassan Voodoos 4-3 come from behind victory over the Timmins Rock Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The Voodoos also got off to a good start notching the night’s opening tally 3:25 into the contest on the 13th of the season from Nicolas Case.

However, Timmins countered by striking three times before the first period was complete to take a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes thanks to tallies from Tyler Gilberds, Jordan Picard and C.J. Bradburn.

Powassan got one back with the lone marker of the middle stanza that was supplied by Cade Herd at 7:51 of the session.

Moving on to the final frame, the Voodoos drew level at 4:44 as rookie forward Harrison Israels picked up his team-leading 34th to knot the affair at 3-3 and help force extra time.

After a scoreless first OT, Beaulieu, won it in the second extra session for the home side as they capped off their comeback in dramatic fashion to end it.

Quintin Loon-Stewardson chipped in with two assists for Powassan, including one on the game-winner.

Christian Cicigoi faced 23 shots in net for the Voodoos to pick-up up the victory while Tyler Masternak made 39 stops helping the Rock earn a point in the OT setback.

The Voodoos will be looking for win number 40 on Saturday night on home ice as they host the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.  Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at the Powassan Sportsplex.
