High-scoring Powassan Voodoos defenceman Dayton Murray tallied twice to help propel his side a 6-5 decision over the Espanola Express Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Mackenzie MacMillan gave Espanola the lead seven minutes into the contest only to see the Voodoos strike twice on efforts from Tyler Gilberds and Shane Beaulieu.

For the Voodoos, it is their seventh straight win as they improve to 13-2 on the season.

However, head coach Beau Moyer says it wasn't the best effort as they struggled to pull away from an Express team with only one win this season.

"They defended us really hard all night long," Moyer said about the Express team coached by former Jr. Trappers bench boss Tom McCarthy.

"We need to come to the rink with a better mindset thinking we have to do the little things better."

There was plenty of offensive efforts on display in the second stanza with the squads racking up six goals between them.

Murray had his two in the frame while teammate Kobe Desmond added a single for Powassan with Isaac Tkachuk, Logan Fennema and MacKenzie Schopfer connecting for the Express.

Quintin Loon-Stewardson had the eventual game-winner for the Voodoos with under six minutes remaining in regulation.

MacMillan did add another for Espanola at 17:28, but they would get no closer before time expired.

Harrison Israels had a big night offensively for Powassan doling out four assists along the way.

Newcomer Graham Dynes picked up the win for the Voodoos in his NOJHL debut stopping 28 of 33.

"Dynes played well made some key saves," added Moyer.
