Gregory Trudeau-Paquet tallied twice on the power play to help the Powassan Voodoos hand the Blind River Beavers their first loss in regulation time this season and win their eighth straight outing as part of a 4-2 decision in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Powassan came out flying, skating to a 2-0 cushion after one period of play on markers from Brett Shawana at even strength and Trudeau-Paquet, via the man advantage.
It was more from the Voodoos in the second stanza when Ryan Mills put the home side up by three at 5:09.
The special teams of Powassan provided another three and a half minutes later as Trudeau-Paquet collected his second extra man effort of the night to extend the home side’s lead.
Up a skater in the latter portion of the period, Blind River captain Caleb Serre scored for a ninth straight game to put the Beavers on the board.
Blind River did get one more in the final frame, off the stick of Justin Mauro, but it proved to be the evening’s final marker as the Voodoos ran their winning streak to eight while becoming the first NOJHL side to reach 10 wins as they improved to 10-1-0-0 overall.
Joe Whittet, Mathew Hardwick and Parker Bowman chipped in with two assists apiece in the triumph with the latter extending a point streak to eight along the way.
Powassan goalkeeper Owen Say made 20 saves to come away victorious in his seventh consecutive start.
Beavers’ netminder Jonathan Lemaire was busy in defeat, seeing 44 shots fired his way in the contest as the visitors slipped to 7-1-1-0 on the year.
The Voodoos are back on the ice Wednesday when they host the visiting Kirkland Lake Gold Miners. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at the Powassan Sportsplex.
