Voodoos early surge holds up against Rapids (VIDEO)

Voodoos break open with four first period goals in home victory

The Powassan Voodoos exploded with four first period goals and held on for a 6-2 win over the visiting French River Rapids on Monday night at the Powassan Sportsplex. 

Dylan D'Agostino paced the offence with one goal and one assist while Tyson Gilmour contributed with three assists.  

Shane Beaulieu, Austin Ramirez, Tyler Gervais-Rolfe, Andy Baker and Rhys Brown rounded out the scoring for the Voodoos. 

For Ramirez and Beaulieu, it was their first goals in a Voodoos uniform.  

Kornel Szabo and Liam Fleming scored for the Rapids. 

Nate McDonald got the victory as he turned away 21 shots for the win.  

North Bay product Evan Peltier got the start for the Rapids and allowed four goals on 10 shots before he was replaced by Korlan Vader who stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced the rest of the way.  

Evan Peltier is the younger brother of Voodoos defenceman Bo Peltier.  

McDonald and teammate Andy Baker will be heading to Cornwall Tuesday as the Voodoos duo will take part in the CJHL Prospects game which will air live on CogecoTV across the province on Wednesday night.   

The Voodoos, ranked 4th overall in Canada, are back on home ice Friday night when they host the French River Rapids.  Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. at the Sportsplex.
