CHELMSFORD, ON. – The Powassan Voodoos scored three times in each period as they soared to a convincing 9-0 victory over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Chelmsford Arena.

The Voodoos came out flying grabbing the lead before the contest was a minute and a half old on a Nicky Grose effort.

Powassan added to their cushion tacking on two more markers before the first period was complete on tallies from Nathaniel McLeod and Francois Lemelin.

It was more Voodoos in the middle session with Tyler Peters collecting his 34th and 35th goals of the season less than five minutes apart with the latter coming during a man advantage opportunity.

The visitors added one more later in the second as Jake Staples notched his 24th of the campaign with 36 seconds left in the stanza.

Powassan then finished off the one-sided decision with three more in the third thanks to Alexi Rivet and goals 28 seconds apart from Kyle Moore to complete the romp.

Eric Champagne dished out three assists for the Voodoos while Peters, Staples, Josh Ibbitson, Daniel Golba and Nicholas Siracuse had two helpers apiece.

Garrett Forrest stopped all 21 shots he faced to post his league-leading fifth shutout of the season.

Mackenzie Savard started for Rayside-Balfour and suffered the loss allowing five against on 28 attempts in just over 30 minutes of work.

Jessie Morin saw 15 attempts in relief for the Canadians.

The Voodoos are back on the ice Monday evening as they host the Espanola Express. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
