A Kyle Quinn power play goal midway through the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Soo Eagles surprised the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading Powassan Voodoos 2-1 Saturday at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Skating in their annual Pink in the Rink contest with game jerseys that auctioned off, with all funds going to the Canadian Cancer Society, the hometown Voodoos opened the scoring 5:39 into the matchup on Dryden Rivet’s fourth of the season.

Sault Ste. Marie then tied it with the lone marker in the middle stanza as Owen Shier provided the equalizer at 15:57.

It stayed that way until half way through the third when the Eagles picked up the eventual difference maker off the stick of Quinn in the low-scoring affair.

Shane Brancato made 29 saves to record the win for the Michigan Soo as he also helped put an end to Powassan’s seven-game winning streak in the process.

Christian Cicigoi faced 36 shots in defeat for Powassan.

The Voodoos played the game without Cam Moore, Cade Herd, David Campbell and Joe Vrbetic, along with head coach Max Gavin who left with Team NOJHL East Saturday in preparation for the Eastern Canada Cup Challenge taking place this week in Trenton.
