Christian Cicigoi turned aside all 32 shots he faced while his teammates notched four late second period goals to give the Powassan Voodoos a 4-0 win over the French River Rapids Wednesday evening Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League preseason action at Noelville Arena.

Neither side would connect in a scoreless opening 20 minutes with Cicigoi and French River starter Kevin Tardif handling every attempt they faced.

The contest remained scoreless past the 15-minute mark of the middle stanza before Powassan’s Ryan Mills struck shorthanded at 15:44.

That put the Voodoos in flight from there as Cade Herd made 2-0 less than a minute later.

Continuing to click offensively, the visitors tacked on one more at 18:34 of the frame as Mat Hardwick finished off a David Campbell feed.

Brett McGlade capped off the quick offensive outburst with 18 seconds left in the period to put his side up by four.

Both clubs tightened up defensively in a scoreless third as Powassan finished off the victory.

Tardif made 27 saves in defeat for French River.

The Voodoos begin the regular season on Friday, September 7th when they welcome the Rayside-Balfour Canadians for the 2018-19 home opener.
