Voodoos bring in local forward

The Powassan Voodoos stayed within the region to sign 2004 birth year power forward Mathieu Savignac. 

The 6’2, 181 pound  forward had 17 goals and 20 assists for 37 points in 33 games for the Lynx who play in the non-sanctioned Greater Metro Junior Hockey League last season.  

“We are thrilled to bring aboard Matt who will bring offense and grit which is the identity the Voodoos will have next year,” said Voodoos head coach Marc Lafleur who saw Savignac recently at a junior prospects tournament in the Ottawa area. 

Savignac, who attended the Voodoos prospects camp in May, is extremely excited to join the Voodoos organization.

“This is one of my biggest accomplishment in my hockey career,” said the Sturgeon Falls product.

“The Voodoos have a great organization with great staff and coaches I am absolutely excited to get to work and help lead this team to victory and also develop my skills on ice with other great hockey players, I would like to thanks the voodoos organization for this great opportunity.”

Savignac will join the Voodoos back on the ice for a the next Voodoos prospects skate on July 9 at Pete Palangio arena.
