One of Brent Tomlinson's most memorable hockey highlights was hoisting the Copeland Cup as an assistant coach with the Powassan Voodoos in 2017.

Tomlinson returns to the Voodoos in a hockey management position as he is the new Associate General Manager and Director of Scouting, the club announced on Wednesday.

Tomlinson, who lives in Bracebridge, had worked as a coach with the Huntsville Otters, the Voodoos affiliate, from the fall of 2017 to the spring of 2019.  He is also currently a Northern Scout for the OHL’s Niagara IceDogs.

Tomlinson says he could not be more thrilled about having the opportunity to return to Voodoos organization.

“Immediately following a meeting I had with the Voodoos coaching and management groups, Chris, Jim and Max, I knew this was going to be the right fit,” said Tomlinson.

“It truly felt like it was a homecoming for me.”

Tomlinson credits now Battalion assistant coach Scott Wray for giving him his first opportunity when the pair started working together with the Voodoos in the teams’ inaugural season.

“Scott Wray and the Voodoos gave me my first opportunity to work in Junior Hockey back in 2014 and that culminated with a league title in  2017, I then moved on to the Huntsville Otters and most recently the Niagara IceDogs, however, I never forgot that none of that would have been possible without getting a start here in Powassan,” he said.

Voodoos GM Chris Dawson is also glad to have Tomlinson back.

“Brent has learned a lot since he started with us in 2014 and is now a very well respected hockey mind.  He has very good connections along the Highway 11 corridor and we think he will be a perfect fit to the Voodoos hockey operations,” said Dawson.

On top of that, head coach Max Gavin will be taking on the role of assistant general manager along with continuing his head coaching duties.

“Max is a great young hockey mind and he wants to learn,” said Dawson.

Gavin has started his expanded role by traveling to the U.S. for recruiting trips at various junior hockey prospects camps south of the border.
