Local product Payton Vescio had two goals and one assist to lead the Nipissing Lakers Varsity Men's hockey team to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the visiting Carleton Ravena in OUA pre-season action Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Gardens.

The visiting Ravens jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the second period on a goal by Cole Carter and increased it to 2-0 with a power play goal by Parker Aucoin, halfway through the period.

The Lakers got on the board with Vescio scoring to cut the lead down to 2-1 by the end of the middle frame.

The Lakers came out and pressured throughout the third and tied the score off a good pass from Vescio to Jacob Collins.

The Lakers broke the tie with five minutes left in regulation, when Vescio's shot through a screen found the back of the net, giving the Lakers their first lead of the night.

Carleton pulled their goalie with 70 seconds left but the Lakers were able to hold them off for the 3-2 win.

Vescio, who was released by the OHL's Hamilton Bulldogs at training camp, finished with three points on the night while Jacob Collins contributed one goal and two assists.

Both Francis Asselin and Brett Epp were solid in goal for the Lakers playing 30 minutes each.

The Lakers next game is Wednesday, October 20 against the University of Toronto. Game time is 7 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.

All exhibition games are free admittance.
