The North Bay Youth Volleyball Club - Lakers U15 girls team captured the Gold Medal at the Ontario Volleyball Association McGregor Cup this past weekend. The team played in Barrie Ontario, as part of the Trillium White C Division.
The Lakers were ranked 8th going into the tournament and finished first in morning pool play 2-0. This led them to the cross over game where they defeated the Barrie Elites Blasters, 2-1 (23-25, 25-22, 16-14).
In the semi-final game, the Lakers squared off against the PVC Flames of Innisfil. This was a tight match seeing the Lakers come out on top in a close scoring 3rd set, (25-15, 18-25, 16-14). The Lakers continued to play strong in the final match and overtook Caspian from Newmarket in two close sets 2-0 (26-24, 28-26) to win the gold medal.
With this win, the team will now move up to Championship Division.
