On Saturday the North Bay Youth Volleyball Club - Lakers hosted the Ontario Volleyball Association U14 Challenge Cup, at the Robert J Surtees Student Athletic Centre, located on the Nipissing University campus.

After losing the first game in round-robin portion of the tournament against Markham Unity, the U14 Lakers stormed back and won their next 3 games against Ottawa Valley Vikings Black, Ottawa Valley Vikings Red and West Nipissing Wild. The Lakers then beat the Georgian Cubs in the semifinals 2-0 (25-23, 25-19).

Thanks to dedicated players who dug deep and battled hard and the committed coaching staff the Lakers U14 then overwhelmed the crowd on their home court by capturing the gold medal against Orillia Suns 2-0 (25-20, 25-12).
