The North Bay Junior Lakers U13A team travelled south this past weekend to take part in the Oakville Hornets Harvest Classic.
The Jr.Lakers kicked off the tournament early Friday morning as they took on the Toronto Leaside Wildcats. In the first game, the Junior Lakers came out on top earning a 2-1 win versus the Wildcats, later Friday afternoon the Junior Lakers would earn a close 1-0 win over the Huron Heat. Earning two wins on Friday was pivotal as the Junior Lakers were looking to finish in the top two to earn a bye to the semi-finals on Sunday.
Saturday morning the U13A team took on the North Halton Twisters where they skated to another win, setting them up for a great opportunity to clinch first place in pool play as long as they could earn a win vs Barrie Saturday afternoon.
The Jr. Lakers were successful in clinching the first place spot and a bye to the semi-finals with a perfect 4-0-0 record after two days, where they also outscored their opponents 8-1.
In the semi-finals on Sunday morning the Jr. Lakers would once again find themselves matched up with the Toronto Leaside Wildcats where they would earn a convincing 3-0 win and on the way to the championship game. In the Championship game,
North Bay took on the Nepean Wildcats. The Jr. Lakers ultimately fell 4-1 to the Wildcats in the championship to earn a silver medal in their first tournament of the season.
The U13A Silver medal is the third Junior Lakers Hockey Medal of the 2024/25 season.
