Two local lifters bring home gold from Toronto Pro Super Show

On Sunday, June 2, Athlete Performance Systems (APS) from Barrie hosted the Canadian Powerlifting Federation’s event at the Toronto Pro Super Show.

There were three packed flights of lifters to entertain the crowd, all while crossfit, bodybuilding, strongman and professional wrestling were taking place at the same venue as part of the weekend fitness expo. 

Two local lifters made the trek down to the Metro Convention Centre and came home with gold.

Johnathan Bedard, who is in the middle of a move to CFB Petawawa, placed first in the Men’s Open Pro Raw division.  Bedard weighed in bang on the 110kg class limit and his lifts were as follows:

Squat: 235kg/518lbs

Bench Press: 165kg/364lbs

Deadlift: 245kg/540lbs

Total: 645kg/1,422lbs

Wilks: 397.583

Kevin Ferris, a CPF Master’s 2 lifter, weighed in at 88.8kg for the 90kg class and won the Men’s Open Amateur Raw division with the following lifts:

Squat: 205kg/452lbs

Bench Press: 130kg/287lbs

Deadlift: 232.5kg/513lbs

Total: 567.5kg/1,251lbs

Wilks: 364.789
