The West Ferris Trojans senior girls basketball team has packed their bags and are heading on a jet for the sunny beaches of Hawaii.

The basketball team is heading for the Pacific to take part in an eight-day international basketball tournament.

The team has been fundraising since last January by running basketball clinics, putting on bake sales and even organizing a golf tournament.

“As a coach, it's been an amazing experience to watch the girls work towards their goal to fund raise in order to raise money for each of them to participate, improving basketball skills and talent, and grow as a team,” said Trojans head coach Andrea Shuttleworth.

“They've all grown so much not only as players, but individual's and I think that's the reason why we try to provide opportunities like this. I know this trip for many will be a once in a lifetime and I could not be more excited for them to experience the culture and environment playing in Hawaii has to offer.”

Juliane McMillan, is a grade 12 student on the team.  She’s excited about the tournament and the opportunity experience the culture of Hawaii.

“As a senior student on the team, I am proud to say my last high school game will be played in Hawaii! This is the trip of a lifetime, and I am so glad I get to experience it alongside my best friends,” she said.

“The girls have all worked so hard to get here, and thanks to our coach she made this dream become a reality.”
