Trappers Roundup - Major Bantams thump North Stars; Minor Peewee winning streak ends

Major Bantam After a weekend off and a chance to work on developing their team systems, the Dig Safe Major Bantam AAA Trappers were set to host the Timmins North Stars.

Major Bantam

After a weekend off and a chance to work on developing their team systems, the Dig Safe Major Bantam AAA Trappers were set to host the Timmins North Stars.  On Saturday, the Trappers started the game by handing their northern rivals a 2-goal lead.  The Trappers stuck to their game plan and managed to explode offensively in the final 2 periods to defeat the North Stars by a score of a 9-4.  

The Trappers wanted to change the script for Sunday morning’s story.  The boys put together a solid start to the game by taking an early 4-0 lead on the North Stars.  The first period ended with the Trappers giving up their only goal against on a 5-on-3 situation.  The Trappers finished the game by winning the last two frames, finishing the game with a solid 6-1 win.

The team will now have 2 weeks to prepare for the Vaughan Kings Classic Tournament to be held in early December.

Minor Bantam

The Minor Bantam AAA Trappers traveled to Whitby to participate in the Gloria Rints Silver Stick Tournament.

The Trappers came away with a 0-3-1 record however, the coaching staff was encouraged with the team's progress versus some very good opponents. The Trappers lost their opening game to the Mississauga Senators 3-1.

Brett Richardson had the line goal with assists from Nico Laforge and Will Bourre. The Trappers then ran into a spectacular display of goaltending in a 2-0 loss to the Ottawa JR 67’s. On Saturday afternoon they were up against the number one rated team in the US, Detroit Honeybaked that is coached by former Centennial Kevin Hatcher.

Despite a 6-1 loss the boys competed the entire game and drew compliments on their work ethic from the Honeybaked coach. Bourre scored with an assist from Richardson. The Trappers rounded out the tournament with a 4-4 tie with the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Goals were scored by Will Perreault unassisted, Todd Violette, Bourre and Richardson. Assists were registered by Cam MacDonald and Richardson (2).

The Trappers now have two weeks off until they attend the Vaughan Kings Classic December 8-10.

Minor Peewee 

The Nipissing Reader Minor Peewee AAA Trappers took two of three during a weekend series with the rival Nickel City Sons at West Ferris arena on the weekend.  

On Saturday morning the Trappers opened up with a tight 3-2 win over the Sons.  

Tyler Moore, Nolan Newton, and Mathieu Turgeon scored for the Trappers. Caleb Dawson contributed two assists while Justin Robinson was solid in goal.  

In the afternoon the Trappers got great goaltending from Patrick Danis as they defeated the Sons 3-1.  Mathieu Turgeon, Jesse Lefebvre, and Nolan Newton had the tallies in the win. 

The Sons finally broke the Trappers impressive 11-game unbeaten streak with a 4-2 victory over the Trappers Sunday morning.   

Nolan Newton and Nate Gravelle scored the goals in the loss as the Trappers fell to 10-1-1 in Northern Ontario Minor Peewee AAA league action.  

The Trappers finished off the afternoon with a visit to Casselholme where they served tea and desserts for the elderly patients.   

The next hockey action the Minor Peewee AAA Trappers are serving up will be in Hamilton next weekend when they take part in the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs Tournament.
