The North Bay Dig Safe Major Bantam AAA Trappers took part in the NOHL Showcase in Sudbury over the weekend. The team took on their rivals from Nickel City on Friday night. They kept the game close through 2 periods of play, trailing by a score of 3-1. The Sons took control with 3 unanswered goals in the final frame to win by a score of 6-1. On Saturday, the Dig Safe Trappers pulled off a win against the Timmins North Stars by a score of 5-3. On the final day of the Showcase, the Major Bantams lost to the Soo Greyhounds 5-2. Coaches were happy with the boys’ work ethic at times during the Showcase, however, consistency through three periods of play is definitely a goal to work on in the coming weeks.

Weekend goal scores include: Cameron Lemcke (2), and Joseph Pavone, Nickolas Mondor, Hunter Periard, Will Rivet, Ryan Landry, Clarke McMillan all with singles.

Minor Bantam

The North Bay and District Minor Bantam AAA Trappers travelled to Sudbury on Saturday to play two games versus the Nickel City Sons and were defeated 4-1 and 6-2. In game one Mathieu Savignac scored for the Trappers with assists from Cameron MacDonald and Owen Ethier. In the second game, Tyler Desmarais and Todd Violette scored with MacDonald picking up the lone assist.

Major Peewee

The North Bay Savignac Major Peewee AAA Trappers played their first 4 games of the regular season over the weekend in the league showcase held in Sudbury. In the first of 2 games played on Friday game one saw the hometown Sudbury Wolves capture the win over the Trappers 5-1 in what was a penalty-filled game. Sudbury scoring 3 times on the power play proved to be the difference as the Trappers could not gain any momentum despite controlling the play for most the game. Game 2 saw a very similar effort as the hardworking Trappers just couldn't buy a goal, a theme known all too well for the coaching staff. The Soo squad squeaked in a win as the Trappers would eventually fall 3-2.

Saturday's game versus the Timmins North Stars saw the trappers behind early but managed to claw their way back into the game. An excellent effort and attention to detail again saw the Trapper team control most of the play, however, a persistent and well-coached Timmins team would eventually hand the Trapper team their 3rd loss by a 3-2 score. Sunday's game vs the Nickel City team was the usual fair for the Trappers as their hard work and exceptional effort would not be rewarded as they fell short of their search for a win. The Trappers suffered their 4th loss of the weekend by a score of 5-1.

The coaching staff are impressed with the team's resiliency and commitment to the goals that have been set.

Minor Peewee

The North Bay & District "Nipissing Reader" Minor Peewee AAA Trappers got off to a solid start against league competition finishing with two wins and a tie at the League Showcase event which took place on the weekend at the Countryside arena in Sudbury.

On Friday night, Masen Wray broke a 2-2 tie as the Trappers slipped by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 3-2. Tyler Moore and Jesse Lefebvre had the other tallies for the Trappers.

On Saturday morning the Trappers fought back for a 4-4 tie with the Sudbury Wolves. Nate Gravelle led the offence with two goals while singles went to Tyler Moore and Ethan Desjardins.

Then on Saturday night, Justin Robinson recorded his first shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over the Nickel City Sons. Mathieu Turgeon scored the game-winner thanks to a great shot in the second period. Nolan Newton, who missed on a late third-period penalty shot attempt, got the eventual insurance marker into an empty net.
