The North Bay Savignac General Woodwork Ltd. Major Peewee AAA Trappers finished up the regular season in winning fashion as they hosted the Soo Greyhounds at the Sturgeon Falls Arena this past weekend.

The feisty and determined Trappers squad ended the weekend outscoring their opponent 25-5 in the three games played.   Game 1 would see the Trapper team score eight times as they would eventually take the game 8-2 with Vaughn Thomson collecting the win between the pipes.

Game two would again see the Trapper’s hard work pay off as they would take the game by a score of 9-3.

A speedy unrelenting forecheck was key in the first 2 games played on Saturday allowing the Trappers to establish their offense and give Mya Lamorea the league lead in goaltender wins this season in game 2.

Game three would again see the Trapper offense shine as the Trappers would take the game in commanding fashion shutting out the visiting Greyhounds 6-0.  Vaughn Thomson collected the shutout for the Trappers who now face the

Timmins Northstars in the best of 5 series set to start on home ice Feb. 24th in Powassan at 2 p.m.

Trappers forward Chase Thompson asserted his offensive ability collecting 11pts in the 3 games with a hat trick in games one and two and scoring a pair in game three while adding 3 helpers along the way.

With the regular season behind them finishing in second place with a record of 17-9-6 for 40 points, only one point behind the Nickel City Sons, the Trappers have established themselves as a difficult opponent heading into the playoffs with a “one shift, one period” at a time frame of mind.

“The work ethic on this team is off the charts, each player back to front has stepped out of their comfort zone and has been rewarded," said Trappers head coach Sheldon Masson.

"We have a highly coachable group pointed in the right direction who expect a lot from themselves and each other.”

The other best of 5 series will see the NC Sons play the winner of a best of 3 series between the Sudbury Wolves who finished 4th and the Greyhounds who finished 5th.

Minor Peewees secure regular season title

The North Bay & District Nipissing Reader Minor Peewee AAA Trappers secured their spot on top of the NOHLAAA Minor Peewee division winning two of three games last weekend over the Nickel City Sons in Chelmsford.

On Saturday afternoon the Trappers fell 4-1 to the Sons, with Tyler Moore getting the lone Trappers marker.

"We got off to a slow start they caught us sleeping we didn't wake up until the third by which time it was too late," said Trappers head coach John Couch.

However, the Trappers rebounded with a 3-2 victory over the Sons with Nolan Newton, Jesse Lefebvre and Davis Anello supplying the offence.

On Sunday morning, the Trappers finished the regular season with a bang winning 6-1 over the Sons.

Nolan Newton led the way with two goals while Mathieu Turgeon had one goal and two assists. Other goals went to Nate Gravelle, Zach Major, and Jesse Lefebvre.

"Our boys played their game start to finish NC just could not keep up with our speed and puck movement our goaltending was spot on. We had our 5th pp goal in this game," stated Couch.

"Our team ended the regular season on top with most points, least goals against most goals for and the best record in our league."

The playoffs begin for the Minor Peewees in two weeks.
