Trappers Roundup

Silver for Minor Peewees at local AAA showcase tournament

The North Bay Dig Safe Major Bantam AAA Trappers headed to Sudbury his past weekend to take on the league-leading Nickel City Sons.  On Saturday afternoon the Trappers played one of their best games of the regular season.  They fore-checked as a team and were backed by good goaltending.  The North Bay squad was tied with the high-scoring NC Sons heading into the final 4 minutes of the game.  The team lost by a final score of 6-3 due to a couple of defensive breakdowns and untimely penalties.

On Sunday the Trappers trailed by a score of 3-1 heading into the third period before falling by a final score of 7-1.  The coaches will work with the players this week to develop a full three-period effort so that the boys can attain their potential.  The team heads to Peterborough next weekend to take part in the Boston Pizza Bantam Icefest Tournament.

Major Peewees in Timmins

The Savignac Major Peewee AAA Trappers were in Timmins this past weekend battling out a three-game set with the North Stars.  The first game would prove to be an exciting start to the weekend as the two teams skated to a 4-4 tie. In the first period the trappers found themselves having to claw back from  2-1 lead taken by the hardworking Timmins team. The second period would see each team score once with the Trappers down 3-2 heading into the third.  In the third, the trappers would fall behind 4-2 but would rally to come from behind and score twice late sealing the 4-4 tie.

The second game of the weekend was again a seesaw battle, however, the Trappers just couldn't find the back of the net and would eventually fall 2-1.

In game three the Trappers exchanged goals with the North Stars in each of the first two periods heading into the third period tied 2-2.  The third period would solve nothing as the game would end in a 2-2 tie.  The Trapper team has shown incredible character through the first games of the season and have some work to do say the coaching staff.  Unfortunately, untimely mistakes have cost the Trappers and a focus on minimizing those mistakes will be the difference in what is an evenly matched aged group.  the Trappers will travel to the Soo for the next three game set the weekend of Oct 28th.

Silver for Minor Peewees

The North Bay & District Nipissing Reader Minor Peewee AAA Trappers got a silver on home ice as they lost 4-0 to the North Central Predators in the North Bay Trappers Northern AAA Fall Showcase which took place at Pete Palangio arena.

The Trappers opened the tournament Friday with a 3-1 win over the Ottawa Aces.  On Friday evening the Trappers continued to roll with a tight 2-1 win over the Central Ontario Wolves.

The Trappers dropped their only Saturday game 4-1 to the North Central Predators.

The 2-1 record sent the Trappers directly into the semi-finals where they faced the Central Ontario Wolves Sunday morning.

In that game, Mathieu Turgeon led the offence with three goals as they defeated the Central Ontario Wolves 7-2.

That win set up another rematch with the Predators.

In the final, a second-period penalty shot goal was all the Predators needed in a 4-0 win, as the visiting Preds took home gold in the six-team event.
