The North Bay Major Midget Trappers suffered a 2-1 loss in game 3 of the GNML final vs the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves last night in Témiscaming.

Both teams scored early in the game when Témiscaming’s Zack Lefebvre put the Trappers on the scoreboard, assisted by Ethan a Allair and Jacob Peterson-Galema. Sudbury answered back late in the first period to tie the game and again early in the second period to make it 2-1.  The teams battled for supremacy without changing the scoreboard again for the rest of the game.

Final series action continues with game 4 in Sudbury at Countryside Arena on Sunday afternoon at 3pm. Game 5, if necessary, will be played back in Témiscaming on Wednesday, March 21st at 7:30 p.m.

Team NOHA goes 2-2

Meantime a good crop of North Bay's best minor midgets needed some help to move onto the playoff round at the OHL Cup, but unfortunately, they did not get it.

The team put together by Battalion Assistant GM Matt Rabideau, and coached by Astroville's Richard Rochefort, finished with a record of 2-2.

After beating London and losing to Vaughan on Wednesday, the NOHA squad fell 3-2 to the Oakville Rangers on Thursday.  Callander's Ethan Masson and Trappers forward David Campbell did the scoring in the setback.

The NOHA finished the tournament with a 2-1 win on Friday against Peterborough. Trappers David Campbell and Joe Jordan did the scoring in the win for Team NOHA.

The Trappers needed a London victory over Oakville to move on. The Rangers ended up defeating London 5-2 on Friday, giving them one more point finishing ahead of the NOHA squad in the standings.

Meantime, Trappers star defenceman Pacey Schleuting, who was part of Team NOHA was named the NOHA Player of the Year during the OHL Cup festivities.

The dynamic defender will likely be the first Northern Ontario player taken in the OHL draft this spring.
