Trappers hoping to catch Regional Tournament

The North Bay Trappers are putting a bid together that could possibly bring the Ontario Regional Major Midget Tournament to the Gateway city in the spring of 2006.

The event involves 8 teams from across the province, and 2006 is the NOHA’s turn to host the event.

Trappers Manager Ted Meggs believes North Bay has an advantage because of its central location in Ontario.

“North Bay has the rink size capacity and it has enough hotels and restaurants to host that many teams,” Meggs said.

Apparently Kirkland Lake has already put a bid in to host the event. The deadline to send in a proposal is February 5th.

Meggs believes North Bay is a perfect fit for the 2006 tourney, since the Trappers will be celebrating their 20th anniversary as one of the founding members of the Great North Midget League.

”We must put in best possible bid we can put in and we hope to get picked,“ he said.

The decision on who will host the event will come in early April at the 2005 Regional tournament taking place in the Toronto area.

Since next years event will take place in Northern Ontario, it will be up to the NOHA board to choose the 2006 host. Meggs is confident even though he expects more bids to be sent in by other Northern communities.

“I’m always optimistic, I think we have a lot of things going for us but I don’t know the thinking of the NOHA board.”
