It didn't start off the way the Trappers wanted but the finish was just what the doctor ordered heading into the playoffs.

The Timmins Majors got on the board first on a floater that eluded Andre Laperierre to give them a 1-0 lead.

The Trappers replied later in the period as Josh Ranger tipped a Matt Thompson shot past Timmins goalie Roch Charbonneau to even the score at 1-1.

The Trappers, already shorthanded with only 8 forwards on the bench, were brought down to seven for most of the first frame as Kyle Willard took a misconduct penalty around the midpoint of the period.

The Trappers started to pick up the pace in the second period as Lance McMahon gave the club the lead early in the second on a point shot from Kyle Radigan. McMahon added his second of the game on a nice pass in front making the score 3-1 after 2 periods of play.

The Trappers added to that lead in the third on a 2 on 1 Adam Avison blasted a one-timer past a helpless Rock Charbonneau to make it 4-1. Then Marc Senecal with a highlight reel goal, deking the Timmins defenceman then Charbonneau to make it 5-1.

Josh Ranger finished off the scoring on a beautiful tip in as the Trappers finish off the regular season on a very high note, and coach Larry Keenan likes that tune.

"The second and third period were a lot better than the first. I thought that we were a little bit tentative coming into the gardens, we haven't played in the gardens for a year or so if was good for them, it took us a period to get going," said Larry Keenan, the colorful Trappers coach who told the troops to pick up the pace in the first intermission.

The Trappers begin the playoffs next weekend as they take on the Valley East Cobras in the first round of the Great North Midget League playoffs.
