Steve’s Premier Pizza Minor Peewee Trappers competed in the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs Classic over the weekend, coming home with a 1-3-0 record.
Game one found the Trappers down early, but a slap shot from the point by Payton Cyr, after a pass from Charlie Hayne, put the Trappers on the board when it deflected off Trappers winger, Cameron Lockhart. The Trappers fell to the Niagara North Stars 3-1. In their second contest, the Trappers met up with the North Central Predators. Down by two, Trappers winger Ben Brunton bounced a puck off Lockahart's skate for his second of the tournament, after a scramble in front of the Predators' netminder.
In the second, Hugh Bouley received a pass from line mate Cayden Hill and rifled a shot to close the gap. Bouley tipped in another point from Trappers winger Cameron McGeachy to tie the game. Mid-way through the third, Brunton gave defenceman Michael Dech a go-ahead pass that resulted in a beautiful rush. Dech’s goal gave the Trappers their second win of the season, with a 4-3 final over the Predators.
Goaltender Carson Ruddy was credited for the win after turning away several scoring opportunities. The Chatham-Kent Cyclones managed an 8-1 win over the Trappers in game three, with Jason Synott scoring the lone goal on a breakaway.
The Trappers fell 6-0 to the North York Rangers in game four, ending the tournament for this hard-working crew.
This weekend the Trappers meet up with the Nickel City Sons for regular season play.
