Trappers AAA Roundup - Minor Peewees in a border battle

The Nipissing Reader North Bay & District Minor Peewee AAA Trappers team traveled to Mississauga to participate in the 24-team Mississauga Rebels Border Battle Showcase over the January 19th to the 21st weekend.

The Trappers finished the event with two wins and three losses finishing in the 14th spot against some high profile teams from Ontario, Quebec and the United States.

The Trappers opened the weekend with a pre-showcase exhibition game against the Los Angeles Jr. Kings on the 18th.

The Trappers built up an early 2-0 lead but the Kings battled back to win 7-3.  Masen Wray held the hot hand for the Trappers scoring two goals and adding an assist in the Thursday night setback. Davis Anello had the other goal.

The Trappers officially started the tourney early Friday morning against the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.  In that game, the Trappers fell 6-2.

Nate Gravelle and Andre Mondoux had the goals in the loss.

On Friday afternoon the Trappers bounced back with a 5-2 win over the New York PAC Jr. Islanders.  Mathieu Turgeon, Tyler Moore, Nate Gravelle, Nolan Newton and Andre Mondoux had the goals.

On Saturday morning, the Trappers faced some competition from Montreal as they took on the Lac St. Louis Lions North.   The Trappers scored two power-play goals in the opening frame and held on for a 3-2 win over the Lions.  Mathieu Turgeon, Caleb Dawson and Nolan Newton had the tallies in the win.

Saturday afternoon, the Trappers took on the Lac St. Louis Lions South, and fell 3-2.  Tyler Moore and Turgeon had the goals, while the Trappers Jesse Lefebvre had a goal called back in the one-goal loss.

The Trappers finished off the tournament Sunday morning with a 7-0 decision at the hands of the Florida Alliance.

The Trappers are back in NOHLAAA action as they host the visiting Nickel City Sons this Saturday and Sunday.
